Role Play
Personality:
Purehaven isn't comfortable around large groups of elves, he usually sticks around those he is closest with. He tends to stay calm and watch things transpire rather than join in. When his healing abilities are needed, he will push himself to the limits of his abilities, both physical and magical, to save his fellow tribesmates. He feels it is his responsibility to keep the tribe in good health but sometimes he goes to extremes.
Quiet and romantic, he loves Dawnmist tenderly and tends not to leave her side. Purehaven picked up his parents' beautiful singing ability and he loves to sing either alone or with the pack during howls. He also enjoys dancing - this was one of the things that drew him to Dawnmist and often he sings and the pair dance for the tribe or in the privacy of their den. When the weather allows it, he spends a lot of time by the river with his family.
Treasures:
The memory of his mother and fathers' singing as a cub. His healing magic. The necklace given to him by Dawnmist.
History:
Purehaven had a joyful youth. His parents, Melody and Crooner, were very close and they shared their skill and love of song and dance with their cub who, to their joy, had inherited their skills. Crooner unfortunately fell gravely ill for many moons and eventually died from a wasting sickness. Purehaven's mother took her mate's death hard, refusing to sing for the tribe from thereafter - she saved her songbird voice only for her son. Melody later died from a poisonous snakebite.
Purehaven went on his soul name search later than most elves and remained out in the canyons longer than usual. When he returned he changed his name from Frond to Purehaven in anticipation of his healing powers, though they had not yet emerged, and sought to learn everything he could about healing and trying to invoke magic hidden within. It was not until many years later that his magic finally erupted, triggered by the stress of trying to protect Dreamberry and Slingstone as he accompanied them on their first hunt and in the intensity of his new, raw power, nearly plucked Thicket's soul name from her being. That single event has been his most powerful experience of his healing powers to date and they have since calmed and stabilized. During the years, he has been able to get past the death of his parents, not blaming himself anymore as once he thought that if he had only found his healing powers sooner, he might have been able to save them.
When Dawnmist Recognized Halfkin, Purehaven found himself in a difficult swirl of emotions. Logically his mind knew that Dawnmist's devotion to him would remain and that the pair was so vastly different neither would mate or den together but the hint of uncertainty wavered in him and he feared, almost believing for one short moment, that she might leave him. Dawnmist finally convinced him that she would not leave him and encouraged Purehaven to support her during her pregnancy, all the while assuring him he would be the father to the cub born as Halfkin's wolfish nature would not allow him to in the same way. His love for Dawnmist ever stronger, Purehaven willingly agreed and with the birth of Beechnut, they made a family together. He has since delighted in watching Beechnut grow and enjoys their times together, fully considering her his own flesh and blood.
Now that Beechnut is growing up, Purehaven finds it a little hard to let go of the cub she once was. He claims he has concerns about Beechnut's occasionally reckless nature, but in truth he simply fears losing the close bond of father and cub. He sees the recent completion of Beechnut's spirit quest as a bittersweet event - though he is overjoyed that Beechnut has found her soul name, he is sad because he does not know her soul name.
Purehaven has also noticed the growing closeness between Beechnut and Halfkin, and though he would not admit it, he is troubled by it. The fears he harboured during Dawnmist's Recognition to Halfkin have returned, and now he worries Halfkin may eventually supplant him as father-figure in Beechnut's life. With the recent apperance of a mysterious sickness that seems to strike both wolf and Hunt blooded elves, Purehaven's unconscious fear of Halfkin is growing, as he wonders if the Hunt blood Beechnut inherited from her sire will put her at greater risk of contracting the mysterious ailment. Purehaven struggles not to betray his fears to his lifemate and child, and he hopes Beechnut remains unaware of his inner doubt.
With the death of his wolf-friend and Beechnut's own illness during the
mysterious winter sickness, Purehaven retreated further into unease and fear for
his loved ones. His inability to help those in need struck him deeply, and
though he understands why he was forced in quarantine during the epidemic, he
still feels he failed as a healer. Getting over his wolf-friend Windmane's death
was very hard for him, and Purehaven hoped not to bond again for several years.
However, he was soon reminded that elves are not the ones who choose bonding,
when a little pup from Mooncrier's litter attached himself to Purehaven's boot
and refused to let go.
Now, three years after the winter epimedic, Purehaven has recovered from the
scars it left, and is slowly learning how to let go of the image of his little
cub - and how to let Beechnut simply be Beechnut.
Wolf-Friend
|
Name: Bear Sex: Male Age: 2 Rank: Low |
|
Markings:
Medium height, with a winter coat he never sheds, making him look bigger than he
is. Bear was all brown as a cub, with very round ears and a round face, leading
Purehaven to name him after the ancient creatures from Dreamshadow's tales.
Fully-grown, Bear has a solid brown coat, and a brown head with a lighter brown
muzzle. His ears grew a little more pointed, but are still rounded for a wolf.
Personality:
The runt of the litter, Bear hovers on the edge of the pack, and does not
interact with the higher-ranking wolves. He latched onto Purehaven like a burr
to a boot as a cub and considers his elf-friend his "mother" - much to
Purehaven's joy and Dawnmist's occasional annoyance. Though he doesn't like to
play with the rest of the pack, Bear's very happy playing by himself, chasing
stray feathers and playing fetch with Purehaven
