Hair:
Her dark chestnut hair drapes down to her lower back in slightly curved waves. Is is parted to the left and usually worn in a loose ponytail. One long small braid adorns the left side of her face. Sometimes she also wears a leather ornament tied to the back of her hair. It has two brown diamond shapes cut from leather pieces, one above the other. From each side and from the bottom of the ornament hang blue strips of leather.

Facial Features:
Rounded, defined cheekbones, large narrow eyes with long lashes, full smiling lips and unusually long, slender ears.

Clothes:

Sometimes, when weather is hot or she is mussel gathering or sand sculpting, she removes her pants and the tunic doubles as a short dress. She wears short black boots on her feet.

Role Play

Personality:
Colorcast is likeable, friendly and helpful. She enjoys singing at howls and hunting with friends. She is quite soft-hearted, especially when it comes to animals. From her mother she inherited a temper that can rise unrepentantly and explosively, though rarely. It has been seen to rise mostly when she is working on something and it isn't turning out the way she wants it to.

Ever since Colorcast was a child, she has enjoyed watching nature go about its cycles. It was the beauty in nature that encouraged her to become a tanner. She strives to bring the colors and detail of nature into her clothing designs.

Treasures:
Her mixing bowls for dyes, tanning tools, collection of pretty feathers, short bow, small knife and a strangleweed net. A leather necklace her mother wore and several beads from her mother.

History:
Colorcast was born through Recognition to Wise Elk and Silversong. She was named Hushberry at that time due to her quiet nature and the brown berry-like colour of her hair. When she was still a cub, her mother wanted her to be a huntress and tried to teach her how to survive in the wilderness. Her mother often became frustrated with Hushberry's lack of interest and short-attention span. It took time and the eventual respect of their differences to pull the two together. They still would clash from time to time, but overall, they became very close.

Colorcast has always been close to her father, since they are alike in many ways. It was from him that she learned to tan leathers and they enjoy an easy relationship, sharing knowledge and sometimes working on larger projects together.

Ever since Colorcast was a small child, she has loved the autumn season the best. The colours of nature called to her each season until she had to learn what their meaning was to her. She left the holt one autumn night to go the quest for her soul name. During this quest, she was filled with the song of the brightly coloured leaves and flowers and knew her soul name and her inner essence. She knew what she wanted to do; she wanted to recreate the rich colours in the clothing her tribesmates wore. Upon her return to the holt, she immediately began to learn the tanning skill. Her skills grew quickly and she found she had a great talent for creating unusual and beautiful colours as well as pleasing designs for the elves to wear. Once she had established herself as a tanner, she took on the name Colorcast.

Her mother, Silversong, was a brave hunter who often went off by herself for the challenge of a solitary hunt. She did this throughout her long life, and this is how her life eventually ended. Her mother left for a hunt and did not return for an unusually long time and she did not answer sendings. A search party of strong hunters was gathered, and they eventually were able to follow her trail to find her dead body. She had been gored by a large animal and was too far from the holt to send for a healer's aid. The search party brought back a necklace Silversong had worn; it was a leather necklace Colorcast made when she was first learning the tanning skills. Simple in design, it has a braided leather chain with an octagonal shaped leather piece hanging from it, with the two moons carefully carved into its surface, dyed a brilliant blue. Colorcast keeps this necklace as her most cherished possession and she carries the pain of her loss deep within in her, quietly keeping it to herself.

Colorcast is happily mated with Birchbark, who has been a friend for many years. She is also good friends with the flute-player, Mystic.

The young tanner has two animal companions, who are often seen by her side; one is her third wolf-friend, Dusk, and the other is a hawk named Beauty that she rescued from feather-hunting humans. She enjoys hunting with the pair on dark nights.

Some time ago, Colorcast discovered a new outlet for her creative talents – sand sculpting. It is a relaxing past-time and she feels there is something special about creating art that will last only as long as the sand remains in the shapes she makes. She has also become involved in clam and mussel gathering, finding in it a different kind of hunting that keeps her challenged, especially with the hope of one day finding a pearl.

Having finally come to terms with her mother's sudden and violent death, Colorcast's moods have become more even and her personality even more free. She hunts occassionally, but spends most of her time with her favourite activies: making clothes, sand sculpting and animal watching.

Since Rock's disappearance, Colorcast has been concerned about Birchbark. They had always been close siblings and his absense has worried the young midwife considerably. The lovemates can be seen spending more time together, as Colorcast comforts her friend.

When the wolf epidemic hit, Colorcast was ready to help in any way she could. She and Birchbark helped Firemoss mix the medicines needed for both elf and wolf alike. She also helped administer the medicines to the wolves, risking the sickened wolves' wrath in the process. Colorcast worked so hard and was so fraught with worry over her own wolf friend, she eventually collapsed, causing great worry among her tribemates, especially Birchbark. Thankfully, she had not come down with the same sickness as the wolves, she had just been overcome by exhaustion.

Then it was a wild and enjoyable Dance of Joining celebration last Storm Rage. On some sort of dreamberry drunken whim, Colorcast and Birchbark lured Wolfstrider to their den and pulled him from his long self-inflicted celibacy. Though Colorcast discovered a very sweet side of the elder that she likes very much, her heart is still held by her lovemate Birchbark. She's certain the pair wouldn't mind sharing their den with the elder again from time to time, but she doesn't expect it to be a permanent arrangement.

Wolf-Friend

Dusk has come into his own over the years, gaining some rank in the pack and asserting his more frisky side. He has found a young female wolf who has sparked his interest and he enjoys spending time with her, as well as his elf-friend.

Brown, gold and white feathers blend together to create the sleek markings that earned Beauty her name. She has a small black beak surrounded by soft black down. Her piercing eyes are a striking amber-gold.

Personality:
Beauty enjoys the company of elves and watching the movements of the tribe. She expresses her thoughts with quick movements of her feet, shifting from side to side and tilting her head. She likes hunting with Colorcast and her wolf Dusk. She flies high in the sky and when she spots prey, she circles to alert her hunting companions. Beauty is personable, friendly and trusting.
